On Sunday February 15, 2009, Kearny Recreation Wrestlers traveled to Nutley High School to compete in the 21 team North Jersey Junior Wrestling League Novice Tournament. The wrestlers competed in multiple weight classes across 5 age divisions; Sub Bantam (SB) Bantam (B), Midget (M), Junior (JR) and Intermediate (I).

Adrian Reyes took home a bronze medal with a third place finish in the Intermediate 119 class.

Most outstanding wrestler of the tournament went to Jacob Cardenas who only surrendered two points in three matches on his way to a first place finish. Cardenas registered a major decision, a pin and a tech fall in the final to become B74 NJJWL Novice Champion.
